Order of the Smashed Brick

Legions of citizens, on both sides of the Canada-US border, generously invest their time and their ingenuity to make the bond between the two nations ever more seamless, either as part of their workday or in a volunteer capacity. Such devotion to such a good cause should not go unheralded.

It was with that thought in mind that the Order of the Smashed Brick was created.  The Order was intended to be a tongue-in-cheek, yet sincere, gesture of recognition of persons who had made outstanding contributions to the cause.

The citation salutes “tenacity and success in dismantling walls of misunderstanding and misguided purpose, further cementing the dynamic bonds between the world’s two freest societies”.

The Order was announced at the annual Canada Gala in Seattle in October, 2000, and US immigration attorney Greg Boos was saluted as the first inductee. During the next three years, twenty-four other deserving individuals were similarly recognized at celebratory galas in Seattle, Bellingham, WA, and Anchorage, AK
